Shout Out to Chem Nerds
If you have been to Google‘s homepage today, you will have noticed the image is a little homage to a very important person in chemistry, Dr. Robert Bunsen! Now, the website claims it’s his 200th birthday today, but Wikipedia says it was yesterday. Regardless, without Dr. Bunsen we would not have the lovely little Bunsen burner I used so many times in my science and chemistry classes. Nor, would we have a name for this little guy either:
I sadly do not work with the little burners anymore (thank god) as I realized early on in my post-college career path that watching a flask boil for 2 hours is not really something enjoyable for me. I ditched out of synthesis and am now more analytical by nature. This doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate my roots, so to speak.
Today is a drabby drab drab day! When is the spring weather coming back? Seriously. I cannot complain too much, though, as after work tomorrow Scott and I will be driving 6.5ish hours up to Vermont for a final hurrah snowboarding weekend! I am very excited to use my pretty new board one last time before the season is officially over. I also have plans today to hit up the Limerick Outlets with my co-worker/friend Amanda. Maybe I’ll find a cute suit finally!

And We’re Back…
I’ve been a little MIA with the blogging, although I kept up with everyone else’s posts for the most part. I’ve been funking a lot the last few days and it’s annoying. Yesterday, Scott and I made a trip to Marshalls as he needed to find clothes to wear for his Tough Mudder in a week and a half. I decided it was a good time to find a less expensive suit. I have a presentation to give in May, and I don’t own a suit that works for that sort of thing. So I tried on a ton of stuff and everything looked awful and then I felt more awful seeing myself in the horrendous lighting in the dressing room. I moped around the store for a while until I stumbled on some maxi dresses and then tried on a white CK suit for shits and giggles.
I sent that to my coworker/friend Amanda for a good laugh and it did help rebuild my spirits. The suit was a size 4, so that counts for something, right? I picked up the two maxi dresses, a Greek recipe book, and new hangers for my closet.
Today wasn’t a whole lot better. I forgot to get money out for coffee and my lame ass bank dropped their “no charge for ATM” feature so I can’t use the FREE one we have at work because even though the ATM won’t charge me, the bank will. I had to redo a bunch of stuff I thought I did right the first time, also lame. When I got home I talked myself into running outside which was horrible to say the least. I felt so slow, my lungs hurt, and I barely squeaked out 3.34 miles. How am I supposed to do 13.1? That’s what I asked myself the whole run. I didn’t even get the runner high, it was more like a runner low. So, to relieve stress I went to putting my closet back together. It was temporarily ruined when a roof leak happened during an ice storm. Organizing things makes me feel SO much better, and it gives me something to talk about on here (I feel pretty boring lately). I shall now expose you to the chaos that was my closet organizing.
I haven’t packed away my boots yet as I don’t really have a place to pack them into, but it’s still cold so I guess that’s a good excuse to keep them in rotation for now.
You can get the clear shoe boxes from The Container Store! They’re genius, I swear.
Pretty purple hangers. These are also genius, my slippery shirts stay right in place with the felt covering.
Above, the most fab shoes I own. Below, my Betsey Johnson collection is only 3 shoes deep for now.
I love the last ones. I’ve only worn the teal pair so far. Scott doesn’t get how I can own shoes I haven’t worn yet.
Finally some organization! I also hung up almost all of my shirts and stuff on the racks. The only things left to transfer is a small drawer for tees and tanks and my over-the-door purse racks. This is giving me a good excuse to purge out some stuff. I’ve already set aside two pairs of shoes and about 6 tops or so to donate. More will definitely follow.
Sorry if this was a boring post, hope the pretty shoes add something to it!
Are you planning any closet overhauls this spring? Have you ever felt worse mood-wise after a workout?

I’ve Created a Monster
Since making the ducky cupcakes the other day, I seriously cannot stop thinking about making more cute cupcake creations! I had some free-time during lunch today and purchased a mini-cupcake tin, a serving tower (can be used for things other than cupcakes), and a cute apron (also can be used while making things other than cupcakes). I guess everyone likes to have a hobby and for the time being, cupcake making will be mine. I’ll probably calm down when it gets too stressful/expensive, haha. The sad news about the duckies is they didn’t win the contest.
We lost to the Philly Phanatic which is somewhat bittersweet, but Scott thinks ours were better (I don’t think the Phanatic ones were well-decorated from his description, but he could be bitter, lol). He blames the fact most of the voting was done before he got into work yesterday. He had an appointment and didn’t get there until 10am, and he saw most of the cupcakes were almost gone meaning votes were already cast. There’s always next year. The good news is the cupcake bake sale raised over $700 to the children’s charity his company sponsors, and the company is matching every dollar from the sale.
This weekend is pretty much shot for running and I’m a bit bummed about that. Scott volunteered us to help his mom move in with his grandparents (they need someone around to help out and she needs to save $$). I hate moving and that includes my own stuff. It just seems to take way more effort than it should, everyone gets stressed out and angry, and by the end of it you don’t want to go anywhere or talk to anyone. At least, that’s how I am at the end of it. We’re heading up there tonight so we can get started early in the morning and have time to visit his other grandpa (on his dad’s side) in the hospital before the visiting hours are up. With all of this running around, there’s little room for me to find 80 min to run 8 miles (let alone a place). They’re calling for snow on Sunday, too. It looks like I may have to just suck it up and push the run back to Monday. Not the end of the world.
So, that’s my plan for the weekend. Any fun plans out there for you all, internet friends? Also, I’d like to take the time to wish a happy birthday (and engagement!!!) to Hope!
Have a good weekends, kids.
xoxo,
Krissie J
