Sun and Some Runs

I am back in PA after a brief weekend visit to my mom’s at the beach.  This weekend was much needed!  I don’t have much in the way of pics, mostly because you all don’t really need to see me in a bikini and I also didn’t really take anything worth posting.  I got down to my mom’s relatively late on Friday and immediately went to bed.  I had the worst time trying to fall asleep for unknown reasons.  I might have been a little anxious for my long run on Sat.  I knew it was going to be hot when I woke up and man, it was.  I got out the door at 6:45am and the sun was already climbing.  I did a loop close to my mom’s house and it was not easy.  I definitely had to take a few walk breaks and averaged a 10:23 pace overall.  I’d say not too bad for it being hot as balls and humid.

Meh.  I was happy to get the whole thing out of the way so I could really enjoy my Saturday… at Seacrets!  I met up with a friend from college and enjoyed the afternoon with her crew.  It wasn’t nearly as packed as it was Memorial Weekend which meant faster service.  I went through half a bottle of SPF 50 and still managed to get some sun on my shoulders.  I tried.

Saturday night I met up with one of my best friends from high school and her husband.  We went to Mango Mike’s in Bethany and had the worst waiter ever.  I had no idea why, but every time he dropped a round off he’d slam the glasses on the table and roll his eyes.  My guess is he had a really bad day, why wouldn’t you want your customers to keep spending money?  And it’s not like opening three bottles of beer is hard work.  I worked as a server and made a point to not take out any annoyances on my customers.  Why ruin the chance of a good tip?  I don’t think we’ll be going back there for a while.  It was a pretty low key night and I was home and in bed before 2am.

Sunday, I got up around 10ish, moseyed over to Wawa for some brunch, stopped at the liquor store for some lager, vodka, and rum, and then changed and went to hang out at my friend’s parents’ pool.  It was quite the fun, relaxing afternoon.

When I got back up here, I felt really antsy and didn’t see anything enticing on TV to watch.  Scott went to his grandma’s for the weekend and I needed to kill some time.  With all the energy, I figured I’d go for a quick jog around town.  Apparently I had a lot more energy than I thought.

Woo!  The first mile was no stopping, but the second I did pause on a couple breaks.  I basically would sprint til I felt sickish (not ill, just weird bc of the heat/humidity), then walk for a few seconds, then start sprinting again.  The humidity is pretty bad tonight and seeing this makes me long for fall running where I won’t have to stop to catch my breath or cool down.  I think the tempo runs and speedwork are starting to pay off.  ;)

That was my weekend in a nutshell.  Some running, a bit of drinking, and a lot of sunshine.

How was your weekend?

Seven Random Facts

I was tagged by Kace to do this and I’m hoping now I will have appeased the blog chain-post gods and go back to my normal nerdy ramblings.  I kid, I do kind of enjoy doing these things, and find that I learn fun stuff about people when participating.  So here we go.  Seven random facts about yours truly.

1.  I can’t eat large tomatoes.  I am a weirdo when it comes to food consistency.  This has prevented me from eating things like cottage cheese, onions (getting better on those) and spinach & artichoke dip.  Large tomatoes are no exception.  I can do smaller ones, like cherries or grapes, but the big one just make me nauseous.  That said, I love ketchup and tomato-based sauces.  Told you I was weird.  ;)

2.  I can’t roll my R’s.  I never figured this out and if I try I end up spitting all over myself, or making some really awkward sounds.  Sexy, right?  Not so much.  I faked my way through Spanish classes and probably sounded like an idiot to my teachers.

3.  At one point in my childhood, we had three horses, two dogs, a cat, six rabbits, and two fish.

4.  At 5’9″, I am the shortest of my family.  My youngest sister has about a half inch on me.

5.  I learned to snowboard at the tender age of 27, one month before turning 28.  Even though I love the summer, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a teeny bit excited for when snow starts falling again.

6.  When I was kid I wanted to be an architect.  I think this had to do with my dad working in the construction industry.  The science thing came about in high school.

7.  During the time I was an RA, one of my residents died.  When you take the RA job, you expect the normal drunken college incidents.  I had a very laid back approach, if you didn’t wake me up and I didn’t see it, it didn’t happen.  I never really got the “fun” incidents like busting dorm drinking parties.  Instead, I got some really messed up ones, and this one was the worst.  Alison died from epilepsy, and had a rare condition that put her at higher risk for this.  Her parents still let her go to school knowing her life was fragile.  I experienced a couple of her seizures (they were never grand mal) and on January 9, 2005 she took a nap and never woke up.

Sorry to end that on a morbid note, but it was a significant moment in my collegiate life and actually has a connection in the story of Scott and me.

Now that that’s out of the way, I am SUPER excited to be heading home this weekend to visit my fam and the beach.  I have plans to do some of this:

Not a race, but training for a race.  I was incorrect in my post yesterday, I have seven miles to do, not six.  My reward for accomplishing said run will be some of these:

I won’t have internet access outside of my phone, so expect more tweets than actual posting.  ;)  Have a good weekend, friends!  Cheers!

What are your plans this weekend?
