I am back from my long weekend in San Diego! I’ll skip venting about the fact US Airways totally screwed me out of my first real day (Thurs) and go right into Friday. I loved everything about San Diego, especially the foliage.
My brother David left me his car while he went up to Huntingdon Beach to wrap up an account with Globe (he works for Transworld Skateboarding). I got to meet his roommate’s pupper Mosey who is the sweetest little girl ever.
Isn’t she the cutest? I couldn’t resist giving her some snuggle time before starting my day. After getting ready for the beach, I drove to Ocean Beach and found free parking immediately! After spending time driving around for spots in OCMD, it’s nice to just show up to a beach and find easy peasy parking. David suggested I head to OB Smoothie and have the acai bowl.
It was ridiculously delicious. It’s an acai blend smoothie with granola, strawberries, blueberries, and bananas all topped with honey. I destroyed it while walking on the gigantic fishing pier in OB. Breakfast complete, I got some quality time with the sand and enjoyed my first actual day on a beach this summer. How sad is that? I was happy nonetheless.
The hat is courtesy of my brother, whose buddies operate Brixton. I dig it. I took a break from the sun (can you see how pasty I am?) to get lunch at South Beach. I enjoyed some good beer and their mahi tacos.
They really know how to do mexican and beer in San Diego. The bar has both a downstairs and upstairs. I definitely like the view upstairs.
Also located in OB is Hodad’s which is where my other brother Thomas works. I wandered over to say hi only to find out he wasn’t working there and was at the one downtown. I didn’t bother ordering anything since the place was totally slammed!
Tom’s coworkers were really fun and friendly and called him to let him know I was in town. I told him I’d catch up with him later and went back to get some final time in the sun. David and I both met back up at South Beach and enjoyed a few pints before heading back to his place. In that time, I did not feel well. I blame the Portugese guy sitting next to us who was sharing raw oysters with me. They tasted really well going down, but I don’t think my stomach was too happy with my decision. I called it early that night (sadly) and passed the heck out when we got home. I didn’t mind being old and lame since I still had two full days to cram in as much visiting as possible. ![]()
Aw, bummer about the post-oyster yuck feeling, but all those beer options look glorious!! Get me to the West!! Smoothies, and puppies, and beach OH MY!!
You can come along the next time!
I don’t think I’ll end up with a beach day this summer. I’m bummed, but poor planning. This trip looks amazing! I’m so jealous. And I want those tacos, like right this minute.
I was only able to eat one they had soooo much filling in them (TWSS). I think I’m gonna hit the home beach (OCMD or Bethany) the first weekend of Aug.
Ah… this makes me want to go to the beach again. Glad you had a great trip!
DO IT! I get more sad the less beach time I have each summer. Hence the desire I may have developed while in San Diego to move there.
I haven’t been to the beach yet this summer either! I can’t believe it. I’m glad you had a nice trip
It was amazing, and this was only day 1!
i love the hat! you look so chic on the beach! i look absurd in hats…seriously. it’s my giant hair i think ha! i have yet to be at the beach or pool! i am baking under those lovely lab lights…fluoro ftw
Jealous. Maybe not about the oysters though, I’m pretty sure they’d make me sick too.
