Single Girl Life No. 1
The amazing thing about living where I do is the plethora of available beer. Not only are there several pubs within walking distance to my apartment that feature a wonderful variety of craft beers, but there is also now a bottle shop where I can pick out various individual brews for my personal enjoyment. Last night I decided to head out and stock up.
All that beer and just for little old me. The fun of living alone and being single is that you don’t have to share if you don’t want to. No one is going to “accidentally” drink your stash and clothing is totally optional. What? I never said this blog was PG. :)
I decided to try one of the beers I picked up and went with Voodoo Brewery’s Wynona’s Big Brown Ale. Those of you who are not in the know, Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver was a big Primus hit and might have been featured on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater… which my brothers played. All. the. time. Not that I minded. I have the game myself now.
I digress. The beer has a nice, roasty aroma to it. The flavor is definitely dark and smokey, and you can get a hint of the higher abv. I gave it a rating of four on Untappd only because brown ales are not my favorite, but this was a fantastic option if you do like that style of brew. It’s not a beer to slam down quickly, so I enjoyed it while watching the last half of the Union game (they lost, boo).
I did offer a whiff to Aki, but she didn’t seem like she really wanted to enjoy much of it.
I guess not everyone is a beer snob. Hehe. So, in conclusion, I may be a girl, and I may be single, and my fridge may have more beer than other things…
Another Short Week
Because I am a lazy ass blogger, instead of a long recap of my last two days in Scotland, you can just follow this link here to my facebook album of the pics from my trip. I managed to get a decent run in on my vacation around Glasgow Green, and then we took the train to Edinburgh and had a quality day/night there. Sunday was pretty much spent relaxing, packing, and chilling out since we both had to be up early the next day. My trip was nothing short of amazing in so, so many ways. I hope to head back to Glasgow sometime next year, because that city rocked. :)
I managed to get my long run done over the weekend. 12 miles!
Although, the aftermath of the run left me with a sore right foot. Nothing serious. Putting pressure on the various areas doesn’t result in any pain, so it’s likely just muscle or tendon soreness.
Saturday night was spent out in the city with my lovely sister and the ever fun Jordan. I only have a pic of my sister and I though. Sorry, J. :(
Good times had by all.
We had our last game of the regular summer season for soccer last night.
I volunteered to play keeper the whole game since my foot was still sore and I didn’t think I could do a lot of running on it. We ended up with a tie which pissed me off rightfully. I blew one save majorly, and the other two were questionable. I did have a good one diving down to get the ball. I kind of enjoy playing keeper, just wish I had actual training for the position, hah! Regardless, we still haven’t lost a game in two seasons and finished out ranked #1. I was pretty happy about that.
I have another short week as I am off Friday to fly to Vegas for a bachelorette party. I’m pretty stoked as I’ve never been before and the group of ladies going are a ton of fun (and goofy). A short workweek only means that it’s going to feel like it is dragging on forever and ever and I’ll be daily dosing myself with coffee.
But the end reward shall be sweet. And, I have a ridiculously awesome outfit to wear out for our Saturday night shenanigans. Just have to pull through some lab work, training runs, and paperwork. Simple enough, right? ;)
Make Me Happy
Happy Friday, party people! I have another Scotland picture-heavy post to throw up, but in the meantime I’m going to mention a couple things that are making me happy. I enjoy doing posts like this because well, I get warm fuzzies thinking about this stuff. So here are a few things I’ve been enjoying/looking forward to.
I am a big dork for Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I can nearly quote that movie start to finish, and having a beer brewed to celebrate such a silly film just makes me absolutely geeked. I paired the Holy Grail Ale with a Wawa sub last night and it made for a perfect dinner. :) Drinking this might have made me start quoting it on Twitter last night… and Facebook… and to anyone within an earshot of me.
Good hair days! I normally pile the mess of my hair on top of my head and forget about it 90% of the time. Yesterday I let it out of a bun and it looked like this. WHAT?! I wish it could do that every day, but sadly it mostly doesn’t. I do need a trim as it’s not been cut since mid-Decemeber, but I have no idea what to do other than long layers. Ideas?!
Happy art! The walls in my apartment, specifically my bedroom, are quite bare and I need to add some pieces to my collection. I picked up a 9×12 of this from Rue La La yesterday to hang in my bedroom. I figure seeing that will help me start each day on a positive note and maybe the annoying things life tends to throw at a person won’t seem so bad. Plus, BRIGHT COLORS! I can’t wait til it ships!
Random doodling. The other day before heading into the lab, I decided to just do some doodles in a notepad. I haven’t had the urge to do that in a long while and I hope this means my artistic side is coming out of hibernation. The first is of a Twi’lek (hello, Star Wars geekery) and the second is from a webcomic I used to read in my collegiate days (diesel sweeties to be exact). I wasn’t joking when I said I am a Nerd Girl. Seriously. :)
And most importantly, some special people’s birthdays are spreading joy to my little nerdy heart. I’d like to wish a very happy birthday to my beer buddy and fellow Philly girl Jordan and another happy birthday to my mini-me Anna, who of all my sisters looks the most like me.
I will be seeing her later this weekend. :)
What are your plans for the weekend ahead? What’s making you happy lately?
