Here we go with day two of my vacation! Putting a break since this is gonna be a photoheavy post!
After breakfast and getting ready for the day ahead, Laura and I wandered to the subway to catch the Inner to the West End.
It was a bit rainy when we first left (in Scotland? Shocking…), but then the sky cleared up a little as we made our way to Brew Dog. I snapped a few pics of the river and tried to get a good one of us with some great background.
A little awkward, but effective. If you recognize the background it’s because they filmed Harry Potter there, apparently. I thought that was pretty spiffy.
Once we got to Brew Dog it was down to business. After getting an explanation of some of the beers, we selected our flights.
The first beer of my flight was the Paradox Jura which is a kick in the pants stout. It clocks in at 15% and is aged in whiskey barrels (I forget the kind). It has a slightly sweet but smokey finish and was a complete treat to enjoy.
I’m not sure at that time of day I could have handled having more than a 3oz sampler. Next up was the Dogma.
I probably should have started with this one instead of the Paradox. I found the flavor a little underwhelming and just didn’t enjoy it as much. The first beer’s flavor and abv was so strong it just overpowered this beer even with a little palate cleansing.
I then made my way over to the Hardcore IPA. Ah, hops! I had missed them already and was happy to be greeted by this beer’s flowery aroma and bitter taste. If you’re a fan of the Hop Devil from Victory or the 90 Min IPA from Dogfish, then I think you will enjoy this IPA greatly. It was definitely my favorite of the group (duh).
I rounded out the flight with the 5A.M. Saint. This was actually my chaser beer while enjoying the heavier ones. It’s a solid amber ale and was quite delicious. It was a nice end to the flight. Brew Dog has a pretty sweet setup in and of itself with indoor tables/bar stools and outdoor seating for when the weather is nice.
I wish I could comment on the food they have, but we already had lunch before heading out so I didn’t eat anything.
I’m sure if the food is any bit like the beer it is fantastic. It was so refreshing to visit a place that reminded me of beer from home! They also had a sweet penguin drawing in the bathroom. Hah!
After the beer, we wandered across the street to an art museum (I forget the name!).
There was a lot of fun and awesome looking art. I won’t go into detail over each pic, so just scroll through and enjoy!
That guy totally has the sads. After the museum, we ventured to one of the beer gardens and ended up befriending some locals. We had a great time sharing funny phrases and laughing our asses off. We then stopped back at Brew Dog to meet a friend of Laura’s for a bit before heading home. On the way we picked up takeout sushi and made ourselves a yummy dinner spread of sushi, edamame, salad, and leftover pizza. Today we’re off to Edinburgh to see the Fringe Fest and sights! Cheers!
How fun! Scotland looks beautiful, and it never hurts to have a great beer place
Now THAT’S a jam packed, fun day!! I love it. Especially Brew Dog (duh).
Brew dog was the shiz!
The beer looks awesome! I love stouts aged in barrels. Yum!
