2012 Dogfish Dash

Yes, I realize I have been away for nearly TWO MONTHS!  More on that later.  But, for now you can enjoy a recap of my Dogfish Dash 2012 experience!

Hello, kids!  Miss me?  I once again had the awesome pleasure of running the Dogfish Dash 10K this year!  The 5K/10K race sold out in merely 12 hours and I had waiting with eager fingertips to type in my registration the morning it opened. This year would be a little different from the past two as it was the first time I was running it single.  Granted, that’s not really a big deal, but it meant I didn’t have a set person planned ahead of time to hold my stuff, or be there to take pics.  So, the pics are a little lacking, but! I was able to get in touch with one of my high school bffs and surprisingly we found each other among 1700 people right before the race started!

Adrian was running the 5K so I paced with her for the first half of the race.  It was refreshing to chat with someone while running and we made really good time through the course.  Once we broke off from the 5K group, it was just me, my bright running clothes, and the town of Milton.  I didn’t wear an HRM, or GPS, or have headphones.  It was the first time I fully ran “naked.”  And I loved it!  As I passed two little girls walking the 5K with their fam, one yelled out, “I love your outfit!”  If I had headphones I might not have heard her, or thanked her.  It was cute.

That’s the only race pic you’ll get from me, unless you REALLY want to look it up yourself.  I had my eyes closed in every other shot, but hey, I paired my open eyes with a lovely flush of RED FACE.

The race was really smooth and I didn’t feel any fatigue until coming into the finish area which was after climbing a hill for the second time.  However, I felt I finished strong and shortly after getting my stuff back (thanks to Adrian’s hub for holding it for me!!) I received this text message.

Hot damn!  I love the fact that they texted you your results this year!  It definitely made it a lot easier!  Another thing tweaked this year were the post-race drinks.  Instead of a flat out open bar, each runner (or person who paid for a wristband) was given three drink tickets.  This made the long lines move way faster and I enjoyed each of my beers (I opted for the 60 Min IPA, Punkin wasn’t offered this year, sadface), after rehydrating, of course…

I love that Adrian and I color coordinated without even planning to.  I also love that her son Cannon is making a break for it in the background.  He is now walking, btw.  WALKING.  Nuts.

We’ve decided for next year we definitely want to participate in the costume contest.  Our ideas are already swirling.  I had to take a pic with this one guy just because of his costume.

Oh yeah, deamau5 fans!

After finishing our beers and enjoying the after party for a couple hours, we made our way into the store and I got a sweet long sleeve tee and the last two of these beauties.

Heeaaaaaveeeeen!  I cannot wait to crack one of these open.  I’m waiting til I run out of my supply of regular pickles before going through these.  ;)

So in conclusion, the race was awesome (many thanks to the volunteers and DFH for throwing such fab event yet again!!), I set a new PR for the 10K, and enjoyed delicious beer with good friends.  Great success!

    • Honestly, it doesn’t need to be unlimited since the ABV of most of the beers they served is relatively much higher than say the crappy solo Miller Lite they have at big races!

  1. Your race picture is great!! I have run 9 races, and only one of them turned out “decent” with the photos! I look like an 80yr old dying woman in the rest!
