Long Run Saturday
Happy Saturday, friends! I have plans to head out this evening and figured it would be better to get my long run in now, instead of trying to fight the er… tiredness I might be feeling tomorrow.
It took me a bit to get out of bed, and I was debating waiting until it got warmer, but he who hesitates is lost and I got my bum out the front door.
The goal was to average 10:44, but I swear I felt like I was running much slower than that. I figured whatever feels natural and not too hard for the long runs is fine, even if it’s a little faster than the training plan calls for. After the five miles, I whipped up a protein smoothie to help my muscles recover.
In it went:
- 9 med frozen strawberries
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1 container Yoplait Greek Honey yogurt
- 1 cup of skim milk
- 2 ice cubes
I’ve got a few errands to run before heading out to my friend’s house to have dinner then celebrate her 30th birthday dancing the night away in Philly. We’re not sure where we’ll end up yet, but it’s been a while since I have been out dancing and I am SO excited. Lots to do, not that I have much help…
Such lazy kitties.
Enjoy your weekend!
Picking Priorities
Today I tried to bite off more than I could chew when it came to my workout. My half training schedule had me doing a long run at 6 miles, and I wanted to get to the 9:30am class at HotBoxYoga. I planned to get up, get to Kelly Drive, rock out the 6 miles, and then hit the class. As the cliche goes, my bet laid plan did not go as I wanted. I got to KD a little later than I wanted, and at mile 4 I had to make a choice, cancel the class and continue with my full training run, or show up to class a little late. It was hot, I took many walk breaks, and I decided that it was more important to get in my training than to do two workouts. So, I popped on the Droid, cancelled my class, and continued on. I felt some energy come back as my stress subsided. Sometimes, you just have to prioritize. I finished my 6 miles in exactly an hour (I don’t track when I walk) and felt good. Plus, the KD scenery is always nice.
Looks lush for being in a city.
It wasn’t my most glorious run, but here are the splits:
I’m a slow little turtle. The upside is there’s a 10am yoga class tomorrow. It all works out!
After getting home from my run, Scott and I were both starving. We initially planned to head to Wawa, but I convinced Scott to do something new. Instead, we went to Santa Fe Burrito. I’d never been there before, and it’s in the same shopping center as Yapple Yogurt. So, I might’ve had ulterior motives for heading to Wynnewood. Can you blame me?
I had the Adobo Shrimp burrito (minus the sour cream) and Scott went with the Black Bean & Cheese with chicken burrito. They were soooo yummy. The place is super fast, too. The burritos were already to go before I even finished paying. I definitely will be heading there again! Burritos complete, we sat outside for a little before heading down two stores to Yapple. Scott hasn’t been initiated into the fro-yo club, so I was happy to take him there (I also was paying, I’m such a good gf). I was feeling chocolate today.
I had the cookies ‘n’ cream flavor, with pb chips, cookie crunch, and chocolate sprinkles. Scott is a PB fanatic, so that’s what he went with.
He wasn’t as big a fan of the pb flavor yogurt and wished he had gone with the flavor I picked. And clearly I’m more of a pro at the self-dispenser.
I’ve been really good at keeping the cost under $5 now when I get fro-yo. Our total was less than $9 with tax. It was the perfect treat for the hot day we’re having.
We’re now relaxing before hanging with our neighbors and having a few of these:
Recipe to come later. It’s right out of a book, but it’s SO good I will happily share.
Have a good Saturday evening, friends!
Have you ever tried to do too much in a short time frame?
