Just What I Needed

This past weekend was exactly what I needed when I felt the mood slump coming on.  Friday night I decided to head into the city to meet my friend Mike and some of his friends for a few drinks and a bite to eat.  I even wore makeup!

Not that it really mattered, but I tried.  Sorry for the blurry car shot.  We started out at Time and I ordered their mac & cheese appetizer since I already at dinner at home.  It was absolutely perfect.  Gooey cheese, huge noodles, and all topped with bbq pulled pork.  I need to make this myself!

I didn’t want to stay out late so when everyone decided to head to South Street I said my goodbyes and ventured home.  I was in bed by 12:30am, hah!

I got up pretty early Saturday hoping to get a decent run in.  It was far more humid than I thought it was going to be and even though I carbed up the night before, I only made it about four miles.  Not the best of runs, but a run.  I didn’t want to overheat and stupidly didn’t bring water with me.  I may invest in a running style Camelbak, especially when I get into the much longer distances of my training plan.

After the run I showered and relaxed and started feeling a bit blue again.  I let myself rest a little longer and then sprang into action.  I wasn’t going to let a stupid mood impede my day and one thing that can cheer you up is a clean place.  I tackled the mess of my living room and got it into a much more presentable state!  I can now have visitors and not be embarrassed by the mess!

I think it looks pretty spiffy, don’t you?

After enjoying the cleanliness of a newly organized place, I packed up an overnight bag and drove back into the city to my friend O’s place.  I hadn’t seen her in a year and we made plans to hang out this weekend.  O was one of the few female chem majors in my year and it was awesome catching up with her.  I also made sure to sport my favorite little ring.

We hung out with a dude first.

And laughed about past encounters in college before venturing to Good Dog for a couple beers.  The place was insanely loud and it was hilarious hearing everyone shouting their conversations.  Two guys next to me were chatting about which of their friends’ girlfriends was the dumbest, and to our right an awkward guy was trying to hit on two girls who were obviously a couple.  Ah, the drunken Sat night crowd.  I had hoped to dial it back a little to do a long run on Sun, but I misjudged my ability to not have too much fun around someone I adore and haven’t seen in ages.  No worries.  The friend time was well worth the missed run.  ;)  Sunday we got up pretty early and after breakfast went for a walk around the city.

Now it’s a short work week for me.  I have just three days to take care of a validation that I think is finally going to work, wrap up a report and archive packet, and update my personal development plan before flying to SCOTLAND.

I even made a list of my running plan this week.

I am beyond excited for the second half of the week.  It’s going to be cooler and rainy the whole time I am there, but I could care less.  This trip is going to be amazing, I am sure of that.  And, running in a foreign country is going to be interesting and fun, I think.  :D

What’s on the agenda for your week ahead?  Ever been to Europe?  How was your weekend?

A Tattoo Update

The week or so after getting back from San Diego (final day post likely tomorrow, if you care) has been pretty awkward, weird, and stressful.  I won’t lie in saying within 12 hours of being out there I wanted to just up and move.  I know I’d have the same stuff there vs here, but with the weather and proximity of fun family and friends, it’s beyond tempting.  It might be in my two year plan to get out there.   What’s holding me back here?  Nothing at the moment.  I figure with the one year lease signed and in effect until next July, I can start mapping out a plan to pay down a lot of stuff (currently looking into bike commuting for good weather days to save gas $$$) and figure out locations and places of employment.  We’ll see.  A lot can happen in two years, that’s for sure.

A good way to counter feeling a bit weird is to go see your favorite band, which is what I did Friday night.  My friend Sheena picked me up and we headed downtown to catch the 311/Slightly Stoopid show at Penn’s Landing.

I’m fairly sure most of the kids were there to see Slightly Stoopid and wondered why 311 wasn’t the opener… youth.  They put on an amazing show and I danced my face off the entire time.  I wish I had a full pic of my outfit.  I sported a bright blue maxi skirt, orange flops, a bright green tank, and a Free People off-shoulder top.  The reason I went a little crazy was due to the fact I forgot to shave my legs and the skirt was the only thing non-pants that would cover it.  And with a skirt that bright, you have to play it up, right?  Right.  Winking smile

It was a fab time, that’s for sure.

Saturday I woke feeling pretty upbeat from the night before and leisurely made my way into the city.  I stopped at my friends’ place for some midday BBQ food and then hopped over to Olde City for my second tattoo session.  We only got two of the flowers done.  I had no idea how detailed they were going to turn out and the top flower hurt SO BAD.  Anyone that says tattoos don’t hurt ever is a liar.  They do, it just depends on how tolerable the pain is during it.  My shoulder area?  Not so much.  But, here’s how it came out.

My artist mixes her own colors, so it’s very likely the coloring cannot be repeated when she runs out of the ink.  I find that pretty spiffy.

We gave Humphrey (the Nerds fairy) eyes so he now has a soul, and she darkened the outline of the flower bud.  The last session should be in two weeks and we’ll get Mr. H colored in along with the bud and the two dragonflies.  I absolutely love how real the flowers look!  Carla does AMAZING work.  If you’re in the area and want a tattoo, I highly recommend her and can hook up the contact info.  Smile

I ran into a bit of car problems not long after the appointment which I am still working on today.  It’s annoying, but looks like I’ll have my car back in the next day or two.  In the meantime, I’m pretending to be a “green” citizen and walking/public transing like crazy.  It’s interesting and also contributing to the idea of biking more often.  I’m also trying to tackle the mess that is my apartment.  How the hell do you acquire so much stuff?  The cats don’t seem to mind my place isn’t spotless just yet.

I’m just glad they’ve adjusted so easily!  That’s all from this peanut gallery for now.  I might go running a little later and then tonight I have my soccer match.  Can’t wait to get back on the field, I missed it!

I Need More Weekend

Having a four day weekend was probably one of the better decisions I’ve made most recently.  Aside from accomplishing not much at all, I did manage to stock my fridge and take about 20 naps.  The fridge was most important though.

I obviously need to do a little bit of food shopping today as it seems beer is the only thing of which we have a good stock.  No complaints here!

I made plans Sunday evening to meet Krissy Monday morning for an early run on Kelly Drive.  I don’t know many other people who get up at 5:45am on Memorial Day, but we sure did!

No makeup, sporting my sweet Oakleys, and happy to be (mostly) awake.  Mostly…  I’m glad we made the early start because the run got real hot real fast.  I couldn’t imagine doing it any later than we planned, because I’d have probably keeled over, scared the crepes out of Krissy, and thus ended the only Running of the Krissy(ie)s to ever take place.  But, we did it!  I had tons of fun chatting about random life stuff, marathons, blogging, and other things while on the run.  This also kicked off my streak for the Runner’s World Run Streak (follow #RWRunStreak to join in or just spectate!).  Here’s the run synopsis:

I decided to make it nice and pretty for you.  Aren’t I creative?  Don’t answer that.  I wore my new New Balances and they felt amazing during the run.  Krissy also sported bright shoes as well.  I think it’s the trend of the year, so get on it, people!  Brights are the way to go.  Plus, eye bleeding colors on your feet make you feel happier, right?  We had to do a post-run photo op, and luckily walking part of the KD loop prevented me from looking like a total tomato.

I seriously cannot wait for Krissy to visit again.  Blog-friend meetups are so much fun, especially when exercise is involved (it makes it way easier, trust me).  Driving home I felt pretty happy and accomplished.  A blue bird could’ve landed on my shoulder.  Well, at least until I got home and saw this.

Sigh.  I don’t even get that mad about it anymore.  Instead of complaining, I just drove around and parked out front.  Our neighbors (that have done this multiple times themselves) are having their kitchen redone and the contractors still don’t seem to realize I PARK IN OUR GARAGE.  I definitely won’t miss that when I move out.

In other news, I painted my nails.  In spite of my low expectations, the fingers have yet to chip (emphasis on the yet).

I also still sort of had a mood slump by the end of the day.  No fun.  And that was my weekend.  It still didn’t feel long enough as I needed the biggest cup of coffee the caf offered today.

Weekends should really be longer.  Period.  The end.
